Records Disposition: Documentation from All Offices Due by July 15

Posted:

Campuses of the State University of New York adhere to schedules for records retention and disposition to ensure that records are retained appropriately and, once their retention periods have lapsed, disposed of routinely. The campus website for records retention and disposition provides links to the schedules, the accompanying SUNY policy, and information about how to comply.

All campus offices and departments should document their records destruction activities during the 2013–2014 academic year using the certificate of records destruction and forward the completed certificate to the campus records management officer, Cleveland Hall 508, or via e-mail to Jill Powell, by Tuesday, July 15, 2014.

Once a certificate of records destruction has been submitted, Business Services staff members will be available to help offices dispose of large quantities of records.

If you are new to the records retention and disposition process, or if you would like a refresher for 2014, you are invited to attend a one-hour informational session on one of these dates. All sessions will take place in Cleveland Hall 418:

  • Friday, April 18, 2:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 22, 10:00 a.m.
  • Friday, June 6, 2:00 p.m.

Please register by e-mail, indicating the date of the session you plan to attend. You may also send an e-mail to request a presentation on records retention and disposition tailored for your office or department.

Thank you.

Mary-Beth Cooper, President of Springfield College, to Address Buffalo State Community

Posted:

Mary-Beth Cooper, president of Springfield College in Massachusetts, will present "The Presidential Journey: The Road Less Traveled," a reflection on her past experience in student affairs and her experiences as the first female president of Springfield College, on Thursday, April 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Assembly Hall.

Cooper became the 13th president of Springfield College in August 2013, bringing experience from a long and distinguished career in higher education administration and community leadership. Choosing to work in education administration because of its vibrant atmosphere, she cites the guiding forces in her career as her passion for learning, her yearning for intellectual stimulation, and her vision for human potential. She firmly believes that education can be the answer to creating a prosperous, successful community of thinkers and doers. In addition to her administrative leadership, she takes seriously her role as a mentor and advocate for students, women, and athletes.

Prior to her presidency, Cooper served as senior vice president for student affairs at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). She joined RIT in 2001 after serving as dean of students at the University of Rochester since 1997, and before that as vice president for student affairs at St. John Fisher College. A community leader, Cooper was chair of the YMCA of Greater Rochester board of directors. In 2005, she was named one of Rochester’s most influential women by the Rochester Business Journal.

Cooper earned a bachelor of arts from the University of Delaware, a master’s degree in education from the University of Georgia, a Ph.D. in education administration from Michigan State University, an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester, and a doctor of management from Case Western Reserve University. She also completed two leadership certificates at Harvard and recently presented a paper at the University of Oxford.

Posted:

The Research Foundation (RF) Business System (Oracle) and reporting environment will soon be upgraded to version R12. Oracle is the business system that houses databases and processes transactions for RF human resources, grants administration, and purchasing/payables. In addition to enhanced functionality, the upgrade transitions the PIAI and Quick View report applications to the new RF Report Center set to go live on Monday, May 5.

The upgrade will require the RF Business System to shut down at the close of business on Friday, April 25, and remain down through Friday, May 2. During this shutdown period, Sponsored Programs Operations (SPO) will not be able to process RF transactions.

Please view the schedule of submission deadlines for processing of RF transactions prior to the shutdown. To minimize delays or issues, you are encouraged to submit paperwork as soon as possible before the established due dates. Thank you.

'Crisis!' Film Series This Thursday Features Buffalo News, Artvoice Columnists

Posted:

The "Crisis!" film series continues on Thursday, March 20, at 6:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center with a free screening of Alex Gibney's 2010 documentary Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer. Guest panelists for the preview and post-screening discussion include Robert McCarthy, chief political correspondent for the Buffalo News, and Geoff Kelly, editor of Artvoice. Client 9 is much more than a biography of former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, the onetime Sheriff of Wall Street. The film explores the events leading up to the most devastating financial collapse since 1929. Gibney asks probing questions about Spitzer, who resigned his governorship six years ago this week after admitting that he was indeed Client 9 in a high-end prostitution ring patronized by many of the powerful Wall Street players he investigated.

The Crisis! series is hosted by Bruce Fisher, director of the Center for Economic and Policy Studies in the Economics and Finance Department. Regular panelists include Ted Schmidt, associate professor of economics and finance, and Albert Michaels, professor of history and social studies education.

The panel starts at 6:00 p.m. Film begins at 6:30, with a discussion following.
