Free AHA CPR/AED Classes

American Heart Association CPR/AED classes are offered at Weigel Health Center free of charge for faculty, staff, and students. Class participants will learn how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and provide relief to a choking victim. Skills are taught for use with adults, children, and infants. The class is completed in three hours. Classes will be held in Weigel Health Center 203 on the following dates:

Monday, September 28
9:00 a.m.–noon

Friday, November 13
9:00 a.m.–noon

Friday, December 4
9:00 a.m.–noon

Tuesday, December 8
noon-3:00 p.m.

Reserve a spot in one of these classes or obtain additional information at lifesupport@buffalostate.edu.

If you would like to schedule a more convenient time for you and three others, please contact us to arrange a class that fits your schedule.

The Professional Development Center will sponsor the webinar "Conquering Your Leadership Challenge with Political Savvy" on Wednesday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m. in Butler Library 181B.

Leaders must overcome numerous challenges in the workplace, from building acceptance for challenging revenue or performance objectives to addressing a teamwork issue or conflict, leading an initiative, or increasing employee motivation during difficult times. Organizational politics can be an obstacle to overcoming these challenges. Developing and enhancing your political savvy will not only allow you to effectively perform in your organization but also give you insights into how to overcome and conquer your challenges at work. Learn what political savvy means, why it's important, and how to develop it, as well as the different aspects of political savvy and how these aspects can help with your leadership challenge.

Light snacks will be provided.

The McNair Scholars Program at Buffalo State seeks high-achieving undergraduate students from all majors, especially from STEM fields. The program prepares students for graduate study through a variety of scholarly and research activities. Please inform any student you feel qualifies for this program. Lynda Schneekloth, landscape artist, professor emerita from the UB School of Architecture and Planning, and current chair of the Sierra Club Niagara Group, will present a lecture on environmental issues and her involvement and planning for the upcoming World Climate Summit in Paris in December on Tuesday, September 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Butler Library 210. This lecture is given at the invitation of the Buffalo-Lille Association Inc. and is free and open to the public.

Community Arts Academy: Music, Art, and Digital Media for Babies, Kids, and Teens

The Community Arts Academy (CAA), a division of the Buffalo State School of Arts and Humanities, provides children with engaging hands-on experiences rooted in the most contemporary pedagogical approaches. Weekly Saturday classes and workshops are researched-based and designed by Buffalo State faculty members. Classes begin October 3 and continue through December 12. Very affordable tuition. Survive and Thrive: Essentials for Starting Your Own Business - September 22

The Small Business Development Center will present "Survive and Thrive: Essentials for Starting Your Own Business," a workshop covering all the essential information needed to start a business, on Tuesday, September 22, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Burchfield Penney Art Center (second floor). Specific topics will include creating a business plan; competition analysis; and tax, legal, and insurance issues. The workshop is free for Buffalo State faculty, staff, students, and alumni and U.S. military veterans and $20 for all others.

Registration will take place immediately before the workshop, from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. To register in advance, please call the SBDC at 878-4030.

Call for Donations: Burchfield Penney Book Sale October 29-31

The Burchfield Penney Art Center is seeking donations from docents, staff, and friends of the BPAC and Buffalo State for its annual book sale on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 29–31. Books of all sorts are welcome, but we gratefully decline periodicals and other magazines, encyclopedias, and books for “Dummies.” Books can be dropped off during gallery hours.
