Today: Deadline for E. O. Smith Arts and Humanities Faculty Development Fund Proposals

Posted:

Proposals are due by 11:59 p.m. today for the E. O. Smith Arts and Humanities Faculty Development Fund. Full-time faculty members in the arts and the humanities are invited to submit their proposals for these competitive, peer-reviewed projects funded at $2,000–$7,000 to support opportunities for their professional development. Eligible candidates must be members of departments included in the arts (art, fine art, design, art conservation, theater, music, dance) or the humanities (history, art history, museum studies, philosophy, religious studies, literature, English, modern and classical languages) and who teach disciplinary-specific courses in the arts and humanities.

Candidates are required to submit their proposals to the selection committee detailing how they would use the funding and include a curriculum vitae and detailed project budget. Funds may be used only for expenses directly related to professional development in the applicant's discipline, including research, supplies used in research or publication of research, travel, or other similar professional activities. Funds may not be directed toward internal administrative or social functions or for personal use. Projects consistent with the mission and goals of the Monroe Fordham Regional History Center will be given preference. Previously funded candidates may reapply (for a new phase of the funded project or for a new project), but previously unfunded candidates will be given preference.

Information about the fund and application process is posted on Blackboard. Completed applications must be submitted online by the end of the day today. The announcement of funded proposals will be made in December, and expenses according to the approved budget must be incurred during the calendar year from January 1 to December 31, 2018. Recipients will be required to complete or make significant progress on their projects during that time.

Research and Creativity Council Workshop: Preparing an Incentive Grant Proposal - November 17

Posted:

Do you need base funding for your research project? Do you want to launch your creative ideas that will lead to bigger projects? Buffalo State’s Research and Creativity Council (RCC) will conduct the workshop "Preparing an Incentive Grant Proposal" on Friday, November 17, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Butler Library 208. (Feel free to bring a brown-bag lunch.)

The Research Incentive Awards Program, sponsored by the RCC, funds a variety of research, scholarly, and creative projects with the intention of enhancing future proposal submissions to outside agencies. Jessica Berg, director of pre-award and contract services, will provide an overview of the program and offer tips for proposal preparation. Carol DeNysschen, Research and Creativity Council chair and a past recipient of the program, will be on hand to share her know-how in preparing a competitive application.

A successful research incentive grant proposal is one that is well-prepared, thoughtfully planned, and concisely packaged. The RCC wants to help make your research incentive grant proposal a success. The maximum request for an incentive proposal is $7,000. These funds could be used to perform preliminary survey research, gather pilot data, hire a graduate assistant to support literature reviews, or cover travel expenses to meet with experts in the field. The funds support activities that lead to the preparation of a competitive proposal to an external agency. Salary for the faculty or staff member developing the grant is not supported. The next deadline date is Friday, February 23, 2018.

RSVP to Gina Game, Research and Creativity Council administrator, by Wednesday, November 15.
