Tell Students: On-Demand Workshops

Student Leadership and Engagement offers a series of workshops in the areas of student organization development, team building, conflict resolution, time management, diversity, and more. These workshops are designed primarily for students, learning communities, and clubs and organizations to help students gain new skills and perspectives while achieving their goals.

Guidelines for On-Demand Workshops

  • A minimum of 10 participants must be in attendance.
  • Workshops must be requested at least two weeks in advance.
  • Workshops must be scheduled between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • Please notify our office 48 hours in advance of any cancellations.

A current list of workshops and information on how to request a workshop can be found on the Student Leadership and Engagement website.

If you have questions or would like to customize a specific workshop for your organization, please contact Student Leadership and Engagement, 878-4631.

Weeks of Welcome at Buffalo State is a series of programming hosted by student organizations and the campus community to welcome our students back for the start of another successful semester.

Information on programs and events can be found through the Weeks of Welcome Schedule on the Student Leadership and Engagement website.

Campus departments and student organizations are encouraged to submit programs to be included in the Weeks of Welcome schedule of events. To submit an event, please complete a Weeks of Welcome Program Submission Form.

Great Lakes Center Open House: September 13

The Great Lakes Center will host its annual open house on Friday, September 13, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the GLC Field Station Teaching Pavilion, located at the foot of Porter Avenue on the Niagara River. We will present the 2018–2019 annual report, as well as updates on the Great Lakes environmental science graduate program and current and future projects. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome. RSVP by Friday, September 6.

Original submissions (Insertion Date 1) appear within the issue’s main contents; repeat submissions (Insertion Dates 2 and 3) are published in the “Previously Announced” section. On occasion, messages may be submitted for one additional three-date run if needed. Please note: repeat submissions from members of the President’s Cabinet (official announcements) always appear in the main section, never under “Previously Announced.”

Parking Services Now in Moot Hall

Parking Services is pleased to announce that the office has moved to Moot Hall 260 (from Chase Hall 126). Permit pickups and citation payments can be completed at the front windows next to Student Accounts. The office was closed August 8 and 9 as we transitioned to the new location. We appreciate your patience and are now back to our normal business hours of Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Our contact information will remain the same.

Orange Friday Kickoff: August 30

Please join the Student Leadership and Engagement Office for the first Orange Friday kickoff of the semester on August 30 from noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union lobby. The event will include games, prizes, music, snacks, and items and coupons sponsored by the Barnes & Noble at Buffalo State Bookstore. Students, faculty, and staff members are invited to show their Bengal pride by wearing orange every Friday of the semester and joining us every first Friday of the month from noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union lobby to celebrate our students’ Bengal spirit. Be sure to follow us on Instagram @BuffStateOrangeFridays for updates; featured photos of students, faculty, and staff wearing orange; and a chance to win promotional items.

Tell Students: Next-Level Leadership Certificate Program

Please tell students about the Next-Level Leadership Certification Program, designed to help students learn to become prominent leaders on and off campus. This program will provide students with essential skills necessary to be personally, professionally, and academically successful. Students will learn such skills as creative leadership, diversity and inclusion best practices, conflict resolution, time management and effective planning, and team building. Participants will also have the opportunity for professional development within the designed workshops, such as interviewing and résumé building. This program is open to all students.

The certificate program is composed of six workshops spanning a multitude of content areas. Participants who attend all six sessions will receive a Next-Level Leadership Certificate of Completion at an end-of-year symposium scheduled for spring 2020,* as well as various tools and skills to implement in their cocurricular lives at Buffalo State College and beyond.  

Please e-mail Ashley Goodwin, assistant director of student leadership and engagement, to become part of the Next-Level Leadership Certificate program.

Free Webinars from SUNY CPD: August 12-16

As part of its Distance Learning Boot Camp, August 12–16, the SUNY Center for Professional Development will offer four workshops that focus on some of the top issues facing distance learning professionals today. Topics include accessibility in online course materials, remote proctoring, and mobile apps in distance education. All webinars will take place from noon to 1:00 p.m. and are free to SUNY campuses. Attend all four, or pick and choose whichever topic suits your needs.
