Year of the Teacher Lecture: 'The Changing Same: The Brown Decision Sixty Years Later' October 23

The Higher Education Administration Department and the Equity and Campus Diversity Office welcome Waldo E. Martin Jr., the Alexander F. and May T. Morrison Professor of American History and American Citizenship at the University of California at Berkeley, who will present “The Changing Same: The Brown Decision Sixty Years Later” on Wednesday, October 23, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Bacon Hall 117.

The academic year 2013–2014 celebrates “The Year of the Teacher” at Buffalo State. In commemoration of this event, Martin, author of Brown v. Board of Education: A Brief History with Documents, will discuss this momentous decision, its impact, and the challenges that remain.

The impact of this historic decision has been wide-ranging and profound. Not only did it open the doors to educational opportunities for black Americans in this nation, but it also opened the gates for equal educational opportunities for all. Despite the decision’s profound impact, in 2013, we see many of its goals of providing equal educational opportunities being erased.

Martin will also be available to sign several of his publications following his talk.
