7:00 p.m. screening: Burchfield Penney Art Center
5:30 p.m., reception with the filmmaker: Metcalf Room, Rockwell Hall
Yoruba Richen, in person, with her award-winning documentary The New Black (2013). The film tells the story of how the African American community is grappling with the gay rights issue in light of the recent gay marriage movement and the fight over civil rights.

Filmmakers Yoruba Richen, Paulette Moore, Dorothea Braemer, and Grace Andriette will screen clips from their work and discuss the Women, Documentary, and Social Justice theme.

- The Spirit of Standing Rock (2016), with Director Paulette Moore
This documentary is a collection of soulful narratives from Standing Rock Water Protectors articulating what they believe are the defining world views, actions, and stories of our day. - Searching for Paradise (2013), with Director Dorothea Braemer
This documentary is about three pioneering art initiatives in rural Brandenburg, Germany. Sometimes named space pioneers for their innovative use of neglected land, the people who are part of these initiatives are, the film argues, important catalysts for cultural innovation and social change.
Beyond Boundaries is curated by Ruth Goldman, assistant professor; Meg Knowles, associate professor; and Michael Niman, professor, of the Communication Department and Jason Parker, diversity program coordinator in the Equity and Campus Diversity Office. The series is sponsored by the Communication Department, the Equity and Campus Diversity Office, the Women and Gender Studies Interdisciplinary Unit, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
