The Buffalo State College Chemistry Department will host the 14th annual Western New York Section of the American Chemical Society Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Science and Mathematics Complex atrium.
More than two dozen undergraduate students from colleges and universities in Western New York will present their scientific research through oral and poster presentations.
Mary Kay Pflum, professor of chemistry at Wayne State University, will present the keynote address at 9:00 a.m. Dr. Pflum received her doctorate from Yale University and completed a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University. She joined the faculty of Wayne State in 2001, where she mainly focused her research on enzymes governing protein post-translational modifications, including kinase, phosphatase, and histone deacetylase (HDAC). Dr. Pflum was promoted to the rank of full professor in 2017 and has been a scientific member of Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
