Visual Arts Reorganization

From the Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities
To serve students more effectively and efficiently, various reorganizations have been initiated in Academic Affairs. After significant review and analysis of data, recommendations of reaccreditation visitors, and consultation with faculty and staff members, the visual arts have been reorganized into two departments. Art Conservation continues as an independent department, and the Art and Design Department (A&D) has been newly formed to serve students and faculty of the former departments of Art Education, Design, Fine Arts, and Interior Design. With 30 full-time faculty members and more than 400 students, A&D has enhanced opportunities to facilitate student degree and course mobility; design and strengthen curriculum; collaboratively recruit, retain, and advise students for all programs; and expand off-campus opportunities for the variety of visual arts students. Stephen Saracino is serving as summer chair, and Jörg Schnier will be chair in the fall. The Art and Design office is located in Upton Hall 402; the telephone number is 878-6032.
