The Student Leadership and Engagement Office is pleased to announce its spring 2021 first-year and transfer student virtual orientation schedule.
Synchronous sessions will take place for three consecutive days at the end of January:
Tuesday, January 26, 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday, January 27, 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, January 28, 6:00 p.m.
Upon submitting their deposit, students are sent an e-mail registration form that allows them to self-register for one of the three sessions. Synchronous sessions will be hosted using the BlueJeans videoconferencing platform. Facilitators will use this time to welcome and engage students, educate them on available campus resources and student service departments, and ultimately impart information based on the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education.
In addition to live virtual sessions, students will also have on-demand access to an asynchronous version of orientation. The asynchronous first-year and transfer student virtual orientation portal is currently open and available to students on Blackboard. This content will remain available to students throughout the semester. Through Blackboard, incoming first-year and transfer students will be able to learn more about their academic majors and other student support services.
Once students submit their deposit and confirm their attendance, they are automatically granted access to the asynchronous orientation portal. Students are alerted to this additional orientation resource in the same e-mail that encourages them to register for a live virtual session. This same e-mail communication also reminds first-year students to schedule a meeting with their adviser and informs transfer students that they can self-register for classes after reviewing the transfer student preregistration tutorial.
