Rebecca Ligman and Heather Cosgrove from the Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention at the University at Buffalo will discuss the prevalence and impact of bullying and harassment on college campuses, as well as strategies for helping perpetrators, targets, and bystanders, on Tuesday, March 5, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Science Building 272 (the Whale Room). Through discussion and interactive elements, they will focus on practical prevention and intervention strategies.

Bullying

• can happen anywhere—cities, suburbs, rural towns, even on college campuses;
• affects everyone—those who are bullied, those who bully, and those who witness bullying;
• can be prevented—especially when the power of a community is brought together; everyone has a role to play in preventing bullying.

The Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention was established in the Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo in 2011. Ligman, M.S.Ed., is the program and operations manager. She has more than seven years of professional experience in higher education. Before joining the staff of the Alberti Center, she served as program manager for the Beard Center for Leadership in Ethics at Duquesne University and was an undergraduate student academic adviser for the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business at Duquesne. Cosgrove is a graduate assistant at the Alberti Center and is completing a practicum at Buffalo State’s Counseling Center. She is a third-year student in UB’s counseling and school psychology program. Her research focuses on peer victimization in college student populations.
