Tell Students: Alternative Summer Break Information Sessions

The VSLC’s Alternative Break program will host one final Alternative Break experience during the 2013–2014 academic year. Participants in the Alternative Summer Break: Appalachian Trail Building Project will head to Bear Mountain, New York, from Saturday, May 31, to Saturday, June 7, to volunteer with the New York–New Jersey Trail Conference. Students will reroute a portion of one of the oldest sections of the Appalachian Trail while learning about hiking-trail preservation, as well as the ecological and social impacts of hiking trails.

This AB experience is part of a long-term partnership that the Alternative Break program has built with the New York–New Jersey Trail Conference. A participant fee of $150 includes transportation, housing, meals, and supplies. Students have the option of fundraising to help cover the participant fee. Spots are limited, so if you’re really interested, apply early.

Information sessions will be held on the following days:

  • Tuesday, April 1; 12:30–1:30 p.m.; Bacon Hall 204
  • Wednesday, April 9; noon–1:00 p.m.; Bacon Hall 204

To apply:

  • Download the application from the VSLC website.
  • Submit the application and $30 deposit to the VSLC in Cleveland 306 by Friday, April 11.

For more information, contact the VSLC, ext. 5811, or stop by Cleveland Hall 306.
