SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grants (IITG), Open Educational Resources Grant Proposals

Innovative Instruction Technology Grants (IITG) and Open Educational Resources Impact Grants are funding opportunities designed to foster academic innovation.

The proposal process has been redesigned to encourage faculty and staff members to connect beyond departmental and campus boundaries to pilot, share, and scale-up transformative teaching and learning practices connected to the chancellor’s strategic four-pillar objectives and our shared commitment for leading sustainable, effective innovations that return value by multiple measures. These competitive seed grant programs will also focus on how these program objectives can be supported by focusing on

  • optimizing artificial intelligence (AI) for teaching and learning and/or
  • expanding support for the adoption of open educational resources (OER).

The two-stage proposal solicitation is detailed on the SUNY IITG Comprehensive Academic Innovation website.

  1. Solicit descriptions of high-level ideas via a brief application similar to a letter of intent (LOI) and town hall–style meetings. (Participation in one of several offered is a requirement.) The goal is to use these meetings to foster more cross-campus communities.
  2. Groups who may have identified common goals can submit an RFP to execute the proposal.

Applicants must create an account on the SUNY online grant management website. Multiple applications from a campus are welcome. The key dates are as follows:

  • LOI website opens Thursday, December 14, and closes Wednesday, January 17.
  • Town hall meetings will commence the weeks of January 29 and February 5.
  • RFP site opens simultaneously with town hall meetings (no later than February 1)
  • RFP deadline: Sunday, March 17, at 11:59 p.m.

Announcements of awards will be made during the 2024 SUNY CIT Conference hosted by the University at Buffalo. Recipients must follow state and campus procurement policies and must identify local campus administrative and procurement support if a project requires expenditures prior to funds distribution. As is the tradition with these SUNY seed fund programs, outcomes must be openly shared under a Creative Commons license.

Additional communication will be forthcoming via the IITG website, as well as through normal SUNY and FACT2 communication channels. In the interim, please do not hesitate to email iitgrants@suny.edu with questions.
