Seeking to Train Additional CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed Instructors

Weigel Health Promotion is seeking additional instructors for CPR/AED as well as Stop the Bleed tourniquet training and will offer American Heart Association CPR/AED trainings again this fall semester. There will be two open sessions in addition to requested trainings for departments, groups, or organizations. Weigel is seeking any student, faculty, or staff member who is willing to be trained this summer or early September to assist with facilitating or co-facilitating classes to accommodate the increased demand and allow opportunities for larger classes (1:6 ratio). With the loss of courses and increased need due to COVID-19, many people require recertification or have requested training. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Weigel will cover the cost to become an instructor in exchange for assisting to facilitate or co-facilitate a minimum of two trainings during the semester. Faculty members, please consider this as an opportunity for community service learning, assignments, or extra credit for your students.

We are also looking for people who qualify to become a Stop the Bleed tourniquet training instructor. This 1:10 ratio course is free; however, you must meet certain requirements to become an instructor. Anyone is eligible to take the training and become certified.

The No. 1 cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding.

Why learn tourniquet training? A bleeding injury can happen anywhere. We’ve seen it happen too often—on the news or in everyday life. Life-threatening bleeding can happen to people injured in serious accidents or disasters. Instead of being a witness, you can become an immediate responder when you know how to Stop the Bleed.

What You’ll Gain from the Course
The person next to a bleeding victim may very well be the one who’s most likely to save that person from bleeding to death. By learning how to Stop the Bleed, you’ll gain the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control bleeding once you learn three quick techniques. Take the Stop the Bleed training course and become empowered to make a life-or-death difference when a bleeding emergency happens.

There are a few extra spaces open for a Stop the Bleed training on Tuesday, July 19, at 3:00 p.m. Please review this information and contact Paula Madrigal, assistant director of prevention and health promotion, if you would like to attend, schedule a training, become an instructor, or be added to a co-instructor contact list.

Thank you.
