College policy does not allow examinations or require attendance in classes on Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur. October 4 is Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish New Year. The period of renewal begins at sunset the night before and ends 10 days later with Yom Kippur on October 13.
October 4 is also the beginning of Ramadan, the ninth and holiest month of the Islamic year. Fasting from sunrise to sunset during the month is one of the fundamental religious duties of Islam.
