The Provost's Office is once again offering an online course development incentive. This incentive is for training in the spring 2012 semester for courses to be offered in summer 2012.
The Incentive
- The incentive is for any course that a faculty member wants to develop into a fully online course.
- $500 will be awarded to those who develop a course through the provided training and have the final, completely developed online course approved by our instructional designer (the training is explained below).
- An additional $500 will be provided to those who teach the course during summer 2012 as long as the course is fully enrolled (20 students for graduate courses, 25 students for undergraduate courses).
- The incentive will go only to those who have acknowledgment from the chair of the department. The chair must acknowledge that the faculty member has the expertise to teach the course, that the course will be scheduled at appropriate times, and that the course can be taught and assessed in an online format.
- Priority will be given to those faculty members who have never developed an online course before, but the incentive is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Training (Please Read Carefully)
- Buffalo State now fully participates in the SUNY Learning Network (SLN), and significant quality training is provided through SLN this round. This training for the spring, however, will be offered mainly on campus by our instructional designers.
- To be included in the training, you must get clearance from Meghan Pereira, our instructional designer.
To obtain clearance, you must- have your chair submit the Online Incentive Course Development Form to Pereira;
- complete the Faculty Self-Assessment: Preparing for Online Teaching and forward the results to angeladmin@buffalostate.edu;
- complete the Basic Computer Skills Self-Survey.
- After the training sessions, you must work with Pereira or Beth Burns on campus to finalize the course and get approval of satisfactory completion. The courses should be completely developed in ANGEL before the summer 2012 semester.
If you wish to participate in this incentive program, please complete the three steps above.
Questions about training can be directed to Pereira. Questions about the incentive can be directed to Kevin Railey, associate provost and dean of the Graduate School, or Margaret Shaw-Burnett, associate vice president for continuing professional studies.
