Online Course Development Incentives

The online course development incentive, offered last year through my office, is again being offered for the fall, and you are invited to participate.

Incentive

  • The incentive is for any course you wish to develop into a fully online course, though priority will be given to those developing graduate and general-education courses.
  • $500 will be given to those who develop a 3-credit online course through the training provided and receive approval of the final, completely developed online course from the instructional designer (training explained below).
  • Courses worth fewer than 3 credit hours will be prorated accordingly.
  • An additional $500 will be provided to those who will teach the online course during summer 2013 as long as the course is fully enrolled (20 students for graduate, 25 for undergraduate).
  • Faculty members must receive acknowledgment from their department chairs. Chairs must acknowledge that instructors have the expertise to teach the course, that the course will be scheduled, and that the course can be taught and assessed in an online format.
  • Priority will be given to those who have never before developed an online course, but the incentive is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Training

Training will be conducted by the SUNY Learning Network and Buffalo State. Workshops will be held on the following dates:

To be included in the training, you must get clearance from Meghan Pereira, senior instructional designer in Instructional Resources, by completing the following steps:

  1. Ask your chair to submit the Online Incentive Course Development Form to Pereira.
  2. Take the Faculty Self-Assessment: Preparing for Online Teaching and forward results to angeladmin@buffalostate.edu.
  3. Complete the Basic Computer Skills Self-Survey.

After the training sessions, you must work with Pereira or Beth Burns, instructional designer in Instructional Resources, to finalize the course and get approval of satisfactory completion. The courses should be completely developed in ANGEL before the summer 2013 semester.

If you are interested in participating in this incentive program, please complete the three steps above. The form will verify the course you plan to develop and will serve as the official record of your chair’s acknowledgment of your interest in and ability to teach the course. Thank you.
