Midterm Grading Spring 2016

The midterm grading process at Buffalo State has far-reaching effects for our students. In the fall 2015 semester, 8,435 students had midterm grades entered into Banner for their review (up from 4,357 students in fall 2010, when the Banner midterm grade pilot began). Most Buffalo State faculty members have embraced the importance of sharing midterm grades in Banner—23,049 midterm grades were submitted in fall 2015—as this mode of course feedback provides both students and their advisers with the necessary information about students’ performance to take appropriate action to maximize student success.

Banner midterm grading is easy to use and a meaningful use of time, as can be seen by the widespread faculty adoption of providing midterm grading feedback well beyond the special populations included in the Early Intervention Program. Given that access to midterm grades is in the best interest of all our students to assist them in arriving at realistic course grade expectations (Burns, 2007) and develop, if necessary, a revised semester academic plan, Academic Affairs strongly encourages all faculty members to issue midterm grades in Banner for all their students.

The spring 2016 midterm grading window in Banner opened on March 14 and will close at 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 25. All faculty members are asked to enter midterm grades for all their students by the end of the midterm grading window. This will allow students and their academic advisers to take appropriate action based on accurate class standing information.
