International Education

Buffalo State is aggressively pursuing international education initiatives in a number of ways. We seek to increase the recruitment of international students to our programs and also to expand the number of Buffalo State students having an international experience via short-term or long-term study-abroad programs. Deans and departments are also engaged in discussion of joint degree programs with universities located throughout the world. We are also interested in expanding teaching and research opportunities abroad for faculty.

The Buffalo State International and Exchange Programs Office is housed in University College, headed by Scott Johnson. Johnson’s title is dean and associate vice president for undergraduate education. University College and the dean will continue to be the point for Buffalo State’s international efforts. Effective September 1, 2012, the leadership position title will become dean and associate vice president for undergraduate and international education. Johnson embraces this new role to lead and coordinate the university’s international efforts and to work collaboratively with deans and the campus community on all international initiatives.

Johnson has restructured the responsibilities of certain personnel in the International and Exchange Programs Office: Josephine Zagarella-Behrens is director of international education with administrative responsibility for Buffalo State’s study-abroad programs and for Buffalo State students participating in exchanges with international universities. Michelle Eisenstein serves as coordinator of services for international scholars and assists in other initiatives of the office. A search is under way for an assistant dean for international and exchange programs. Inquiries about study-abroad and exchange programs should still be directed to South Wing 410, ext. 4620, intleduc@buffalostate.edu.
