Changes to Academic Convocation

Buffalo State will modify the scheduling of Academic Convocation effective with the 2012–2013 academic year. Past practice has been to hold Academic Convocation in September to include a program with a speaker to kick off the academic year and with time to recognize the most recent recipients of Chancellor’s and President’s awards. Extensive consultation has led to the following changes:

  1. Academic Convocation will not be held in September.

  2. Academic Affairs will institute a new faculty-staff recognition ceremony in October or November of each academic year to recognize and celebrate Buffalo State colleagues who are recipients of Chancellor’s, President’s, and other institutional and professional awards. A ceremony focused only on faculty-staff award recognition will offer expanded opportunities to acknowledge and highlight these significant accomplishments of our colleagues.

  3. One or more convocations or programs with emphasis on the Buffalo State mission and perhaps linked to our “Year of the…” initiative will be scheduled during the academic year as a replacement for Academic Convocation.

Information on the implementation of these new practices in academic year 2012–2013 will be forthcoming when plans are finalized.
