Academic Calendar Clarification

As we transition into a new academic calendar that complies with the policies adopted last spring, we will have a transition year that slightly varies from the policy so that we do not have to move previously announced major events such as Commencement. The fall 2016 academic calendar on our web page contains the correct information. The fall 2016 semester begins Monday, August 29, and we will not have classes on Monday, October 10, or Friday, November 11. Study Day is eliminated, and classes should be scheduled through Friday, December 9. The spring 2017 semester begins Monday, January 23, so that we may hold Commencement on May 13. There will be no Study Day in the spring semester, and classes should be scheduled accordingly. I will convene a Calendar Committee this fall to set a five-year academic calendar moving forward.
