From the President

To the Faculty and Staff of Buffalo State:
Greetings, colleagues! And welcome to the start of the 2011–2012 academic year at Buffalo State. I look forward to working alongside you as we strive to give our students the most engaging, illuminating, and inspiring educational experience possible.
The year ahead promises to be full of moments of illumination and inspiration for us all. Buffalo State will celebrate the Year of the Arts in 2011–2012, and a robust slate of performances, exhibits, and other events is already taking shape. Please visit www.yearofthearts.com for more information, and think about ways you can contribute to this wonderful celebration of the arts at Buffalo State.
If you’ve been away for the summer, you’ll notice some significant changes to our campus. Construction continues to move right along on the science and mathematics complex and the technology building, and the first residents of the new student apartment complex have already moved into their new home. Please plan to join us for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at our newest residential facility on Tuesday, September 13, at noon.
Please also plan to take part in our annual Academic Convocation on Thursday, September 15, at 12:15 p.m. in Rockwell Hall’s Performing Arts Center. We will honor a number of our colleagues and present an honorary degree to Buffalo State alumnus and recording industry executive Steve Ralbovsky, ’79.
Finally, please know that my cabinet and I will do our best to keep you informed with the latest news about the budget throughout the year. A recent message in the Daily Bulletin told part of the budget story; now that we have a five-year tuition policy, we are more able to envision future revenues and avoid the crises that too often afflict higher education. We will work with the Budget and Staff Allocation Committee on these matters during the fall semester.
Buffalo State is—as the Chronicle of Higher Education recently recognized—a great place to work, and a community of which we can all be proud to be members. Thank you for all you do, each and every day, for the good of Buffalo State.
Sincerely,
Aaron Podolefsky, Ph.D.
President
