Senior Administration and President's Office Changes

I want to share some recent changes that have been implemented in the college’s senior administration and in my office.

Vice President for Student Affairs
I am revising the organization of the Academic and Student Affairs Office to reflect a structure that is most consistent with institutions that hold the same Carnegie Classification as Buffalo State. Effective immediately, the vice president for student affairs will report directly to the president. I am confident that the collaborative relationships and synergy already established between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs will be maintained and that we will continue to effectively coordinate the institution’s overall response to our students in a holistic manner that fosters student success.

Information Services and Systems
With the decision of Vice President for Information Services and Systems (ISAS) and Chief Information Officer Voldemar Innus to conclude his service to Buffalo State in December, I am considering a reorganization of the unit that involves a realignment of duties and responsibilities among the remaining leadership staff, with Don Erwin (currently our senior associate vice president for information services and systems) assuming the role of chief information officer and reporting directly to me. The vice president position in the unit would be eliminated. We believe this reorganization will meet the goals of providing a cost savings to the institution while maintaining the consistency and high quality of service that is currently provided by the unit. In addition, this plan will reduce the number of senior administrators by one. To ensure that this reorganization meets all expectations and achieves the desired outcomes, I will closely monitor and evaluate its effects over the next two years.

I have established a Reorganization Advisory Committee to solicit input and offer feedback on the proposed reorganization. The committee members are Maryruth Glogowski, associate vice president for library and instructional technology, committee chair; Provost Dennis Ponton; and Vice President for Student Affairs Hal Payne. It will be the committee’s responsibility to solicit, receive and evaluate feedback on the proposed reorganization from the ISAS Board and Advisory Council and the faculty and staff of the ISAS unit. There will also be an opportunity for any member of the campus community to provide input through their ISAS Board or Council representative. The committee will then make a final recommendation to me on this proposal by December 6.

Equity and Campus Diversity
Senior Adviser to the President for Equity and Campus Diversity Dolores Battle will retire in December. Our strong commitment to and respect for diversity and individual differences will remain the guiding principles as we evaluate the current and future structure of this unit. We will advise the campus soon on how we plan to continue support and services in this area both in the short and long term.
