Response to College Senate Resolution: Motion to Suspend BSC 101 Requirement

At its February 10, 2012, meeting, the College Senate voted to forward to the president a recommendation to suspend the BSC 101 requirement effective fall 2012 as follows:

Motion to Suspend the BSC 101 Requirement
Introduced by Senator Andrew Nicholls
Brought for action on February 10, 2012

WHEREAS, the Senate has charged SIFOC to craft revisions to Buffalo State College’s Intellectual Foundations Program; and

WHEREAS, that charge included the elimination of BSC 101 (Foundations of Inquiry and its equivalents) as an IF requirement; and

WHEREAS, there is now confusion on campus regarding the short- and medium-term ramifications of this change for course selection, advisement, scheduling, and staffing purposes,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate advise the administration to suspend the BSC 101 requirement effective fall 2012.

I hereby approve the suspension of the BSC 101 requirement effective with the fall 2012 semester. I charge the provost with the responsibility for implementing this policy.
