At its May 9, 2014, meeting, the College Senate voted to recommend to the interim president the changes in the College Priority Registration Policy outlined in the resolution below:

Current Policy: Priority Registration
A student leader shall receive priority registration. A student leader is a matriculated undergraduate student enrolled in at least 9 credit hours who has been elected to a USG or campus position. This totals at most 55 students. Elected positions are those students elected through the student government annual elections. Upon completion of the student elections, the election chair of USG shall forward all names and information to appropriate persons on campus. If any discrepancies arise, both the elections chair and the USG president may inquire about status or information.

Resolution on Granting Priority Registration for Student Leaders

WHEREAS, our student leaders provide critical direction each year for the college; and

WHEREAS, these leaders elected to various positions volunteer their time and most often sit on more than three campus committees each; and

WHEREAS, while on these campus committees, these students must balance not only their school, work, and study schedules but also their volunteer and campus involvement schedules, which may include up to 25 hours of time a week; and

WHEREAS, priority registration would give assistance to these students to help them arrange a schedule applicable to their involvement and would allow them to register for sections that would not prohibit their involvement or stop it,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that student leaders shall receive priority registration. A student leader is a matriculated undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in at least 9 credit hours who has been elected to a United Students Government, Graduate Student Association, or campus position. This totals at most 88 students: 51 senators and executive board members of United Students Government; 13 senators and executive board members of the Graduate Student Association; one student member of the College Council; 12 student senators of the College Senate; two student members of the Faculty-Student Association; four student members of the Grant Allocation Committee; two undergraduate student members of the Intercollegiate Athletics Board; two members of the SUNY Student Assembly; and one student member of the Auxiliary Services Advisory Council. Elected positions are those students elected through the United Students Government or Graduate Student Association elections.

I hereby accept the recommendation of the College Senate and authorize the vice president for student affairs to oversee the implementation of the recommended changes to the college Priority Registration Policy effective immediately. I further charge the vice president for student affairs with the responsibility of ensuring that these policy changes are updated in college documents as soon as possible and that the policy changes are immediately communicated broadly and widely to all faculty, students, and staff.
