Response to College Senate Recommendation: 'Making Diversity Count' Position Paper

At its March 14, 2014, meeting, the College Senate voted to endorse the "Making Diversity Count" position paper and forward a resolution articulating support to the interim president for consideration and action:

Resolution for Endorsing 'Making Diversity Count'
WHEREAS, Chancellor Zimpher and the leadership of SUNY have determined that "we must ensure that SUNY continues to reflect the unique diversity of New York among our student, faculty, and administrative bodies" (2014 State of the University address); and

WHEREAS, SUNY is committed to being one of the "most diverse learning environments in the world" (SUNY: Six Big Ideas, SUNY and the World); and

WHEREAS, Buffalo State has confirmed diversity as central to its mission; and

WHEREAS, the SUNY University Faculty Senate leadership, after endorsing the "Making Diversity Count" document, has requested each college senate to review, discuss, and endorse when possible the "Making Diversity Count" position paper,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Buffalo State College Senate review, discuss, and endorse "Making Diversity Count" and communicate its position to the University Faculty Senate.

I hereby accept the recommendation of the Buffalo State College Senate and thank the Senate for its endorsement of the "Making Diversity Count" document. I look forward to learning more about how the document will be reviewed and discussed at Buffalo State.
