Physics/Chemistry Talk: Sub-Kelvin Cooling for Space Flight Applications

Dr. Mark O. Kimball of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center will speak about the challenges of getting sensitive instruments cooled to less than one kelvin in outer space, Thursday, March 10, at 12:30 p.m. in Science Building 272. The cooling system is mass and volume constrained, must survive the violence of a rocket launch, and cannot rely upon a density gradient in a working fluid to provide the cooling mechanism.
