IPDS Italy and Dominican Republic: Participant Reflections

The spring 2023 Michael and Nancy Chicola International Professional Development Schools (IPDS) program cohorts invite you to follow their international teaching and travel experiences this month through their individual blogs.

Eight IPDS Italy teacher education candidates from a variety of disciplines will travel to Torremaggiore, Italy, from January 3 to 21, led by Kerry Renzoni, chair and associate professor of music education, and Sherri Weber, associate professor of elementary education, literacy, and educational leadership. While in Italy, participants will engage with K–6 public school students at San Giovanni Bosco Early Childhood/Childhood School. Please visit and comment on the IPDS Italy travel blogs.

Eight IPDS Dominican Republic education and psychology students will travel to Cabarete, Dominican Republic, from January 8 to 22, led by Tamara Horstman-Riphahn, executive assistant to the dean of the School of Education, and Pamela Schuetze-Pizarro, professor of psychology. While in the Dominican Republic, participants will work closely with 3 Mariposas Montessori and the Mariposa DR Foundation Center for Girls. Please visit and comment on the IPDS Dominican Republic travel blogs.

Participants in both programs participate in field experiences in local schools, explore language learning and teaching, conduct educational research, and engage in a variety of cultural activities. The students love to hear from faculty and staff members, so please take a moment to leave a comment on their blog while you are enjoying their reflections and photos.
