I am pleased to provide an update on the renovations to the Campbell Student Union, which are proceeding as planned. Demolition of the center staircase and adjacent ramps has been completed, and materials are now being brought on site for the new glass and steel staircase. The next phase of the demolition will be to remove the fireplace in the Fireside Lounge on the third floor. The temporary ramp on the outside of the building leading to Residential Dining has been modified to be less obtrusive.  

To ensure the least disruption, the main lobby will be closed to the public after the end of the current semester, beginning Monday, May 14. During this time, building users will have access to the Information Center from the lower lobby side of the facility and the north hall entrance, but not from the entrance facing E. H. Butler Library. Retail Dining will be accessible during this time by two exterior entrances on the Butler Library side and by the lower lobby. Residential Dining will continue to be accessible from the exterior entrance on the Butler Library side. It is projected that the upper lobby will reopen on Sunday, October 14. During this phase of the construction, the ATMs will be moved to the lower lobby near the women’s restroom, with the exception of the HSBC machine, which will be removed by the company as part of its corporate realignment. The vending machines will be moved to the lower lobby near the men’s room.

Rehabilitation of the passenger elevator that provides service to the fourth floor will occur between May 14 and sometime in August. During this time, the elevator will be out of service.

Building users will continue to enjoy wireless connectivity throughout the renovation with only occasional and sporadic breaks in service while wiring is rerouted.
