Carolyn Guzski, assistant professor, Music, presented a paper, “Opera and Nation: Fanciulla in Context,” at the symposium Fanciulla 100: Celebrating Puccini. The symposium was sponsored by the Boston University College of Fine Arts and Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center on December 6 at Mugar Library, Boston University. The symposium honored the centenary of Giacomo Puccini's opera La Fanciulla del West (Girl of the Golden West). The opera’s world premiere took place at the Metropolitan Opera on December 10, 1910.
