The Burchfield Penney Art Center's April M&T Second Friday was recognized on April 17 at the fourth annual Good Going Awards, sponsored by the NFTA and supported by Ecology and Environment Inc., the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, GrowWNY, and the WNY Environmental Alliance. The event received the Earth Day Community Outreach Award for the organization that "best develops and implements an Earth Day program or activities for the community."
In conjunction with the exhibition Edible Complex, the Burchfield Penney hosted a “live exhibition of our food culture.” Nearly 20 farms, vineyards, and nonprofits attended this event to share their histories and stories and sample and sell their products. Nearly 1,000 guests attended our first M&T Second Friday on April 13!
The night included a screening of the Lexington Cooperative’s DVD “Locally Grown; three educational presentations, by the Massachusetts Avenue Project, Garden of Stewardship, and the Pelion Community Garden at City Honors School; and a book signing by Adam Goetz, Nickel City Chef.
The museum offered this event to showcase the vibrancy of the local and sustainable food movement in Western New York. Our participants are devoted to creating a healthier, smarter, and more-connected place to live. As the first LEED-certified museum in the state and as devotees of naturalist Charles E. Burchfield, the Burchfield Penney supports efforts to improve the local economy and the health of our residents and environment. We are eager to continue to serve as a forum for these discussions.
We are grateful for the support of M&T Bank, Yelp, and our participants:
