The Fourth of July holiday falls on a Thursday this year. Although summer classes are in session on Friday, July 5, we anticipate that many professional and classified employees may request to use vacation or personal leave accruals on that day.
If all employees in a department or area request time off on July 5, department heads may request permission from their vice president or the chief information officer to close the office that day.
Departments that have elected to close on July 5 and have approval to do so should post notices in advance and change voice mail recordings so that students and other employees are aware that the department will be closed.
No employee who wants to work can be required to take the day off on July 5. Employees who take the day off must charge vacation accruals or, if applicable, personal leave.
Every effort should be made to ensure the safety of employees who wish to work and will be alone in the department or area. Supervisors or department heads who have an employee who would be working alone in an isolated location should contact Susan Earshen, associate vice president for human resource management, at ext. 3042 to discuss appropriate arrangements.
If you have any questions, please call Human Resource Management at ext. 3042.
