Newman Center Presents an Evening of Reflection

The Newman Center presents “An Experience of Total Forgiveness," facilitated by Fr. John Mergenhagen, on Tuesday, March 6, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at 1219 Elmwood Ave. To forgive totally means more than not planning revenge. There are degrees of forgiveness, just as there are degrees of love. Not getting even is only the bottom line. Total forgiveness means learning to love the person who hurt us. Lest this seem too difficult, it is important to understand: (1) we cannot forget what happened; (2) we need not resume an old relationship; and (3) we do not have to put up with an impossible situation. The secret of total forgiveness is to learn to love the person first and let the forgiveness flow from the love. We will also consider the correlation between forgiving others and loving ourselves. Fr. Mergenhagen has been a full-time retreat director for over 25 years. He has given retreats locally, throughout the United States, and overseas. All are welcome.
