Talk on Open Educational Resources: June 13

The SUNY Librarians Association will host its annual conference at Buffalo State from June 12 to 14. This year's theme is Opening Minds, Inspiring Tomorrow. David Wiley, associate professor of instructional psychology and technology in the David O. McKay School of Education at Brigham Young University, will deliver the keynote address, "Reclaiming Open: The Many Benefits of Truly Open Education," at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13, in Rockwell Hall. A nationally recognized expert in open education, Wiley also leads the McKay School's Access to Knowledge Initiative. His talk is open to the campus community and will be streamed live. Please join us for this exciting event.

Abstract
The term "open" has recently been co-opted by for-profit "MOOC" providers, much to the chagrin of open education advocates. What does "open education" really mean? Can it actually succeed in saving money? Improving outcomes? Empowering faculty? Come and learn about the many benefits of truly open education and how you can get involved.
