The Buffalo State College Japan Relief group, along with the Japanese Group of Buffalo and the Japanese Student Association at SUNY Buffalo, are hosting Sakura Walk, Sunday, May 1, at 2:00 p.m., in Delaware Park. All proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross. Registration is $10.
The walk, which will raise money for the Japanese tsunami victims, increase awareness of the disaster, and promote the health of the community, will start along the ring road of Delaware Park (near Colvin Avenue and Amherst Street). The short walk consists of one round and the long walk is two times around the ring.
The walk is named “sakura,” meaning cherry blossom in Japanese, after Japan's national flower. These flowers often vitalize the Japanese during the spring. Due to the shortness of their bloom, sakuras are also representative of how fleeting life can be.
Everyone is encouraged and welcome to attend in this exceptional community-wide effort.
