Posted: Friday, March 22, 2013Professional Development Webinar - Generation on a Tightrope: A Portrait of Todays College Student
This recorded presentation by Arthur Levine is available to all members of the Buffalo State community. You can watch it at the time and location of your choice until March 31.
Today’s undergraduates are always in touch, but they’re weak in face-to-face communication. They are professionally ambitious yet clueless about proper decorum in the workplace. They face a tough national economy, yet they expect to be at least as well off as their parents. To work with this generation on a tightrope, campus administrators and faculty need new perspectives on their expectations and motivations. Join Arthur Levine—president of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, former president of Teachers College, Columbia University, and coauthor of Generation on a Tightrope—for this workshop on the mindset of today’s undergraduates in the context of four decades of campus surveys.
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to
- rethink the use of digital and virtual assets, both in classrooms and in student services;
- differently manage students’ expectations about campus and in-class participation, activities, and behaviors;
- reframe interactions with students’ parents and potential employers;
- approach campus diversity issues in light of contemporary student mindsets;
- examine the academic and social needs of today’s undergraduates.
