Carol Townsend, Associate Professor, Art and Design

A poem by Carol Townsend, associate professor of art and design, titled "Sanctuary," was chosen as the first runner-up (PDF, 410 KB) for the Carolyn Forché Prize for Humanitarian Poetry and will be included in the upcoming anthology Elusions: Refugee Poems (WaterWood Press, 2019).

Judges for the prize were James Adams, a 2007 Pulitzer Prize finalist, and Peter Anderson, winner of the Literary Fiction Book Review Award in 2015. Carolyn Forché is renowned as a “poet of witness” and has been a human rights activist for more than 30 years.
