Drew Kahn, professor and chair of theater, will discuss “Gender-Bending in Shakespearean Productions,” Friday, March 11, from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. in Bacon Hall 215. Kahn will talk about artistic, social, and practical reasons for engaging in cross-gender casting when producing established works, and discuss the ways in which such casting can convey powerful insights about contemporary issues related to gender and diversity.
Specific scenes from the current production of Julius Caesar will be used as illustrations. This presentation is a new addition to the Women's Studies Research Symposium. It will replace the previously announced talk on "Postpartum Mood Disorders in Men," which was cancelled due to illness.
