Eric Weaver: Mental Health Awareness Week Keynote Speaker

Eric Weaver, a retired police sergeant, will discuss "Overcoming the Darkness: Perspectives on Mental Health, Mental Illness, Suicide Awareness and Prevention," today, Monday, March 7, at 12:30 p.m. in E. H. Butler Library 210.

Weaver will openly, honestly, and frankly discuss how his life was riddled with personal struggles and trials, as well as severe battles with stress, depression, self-destructive and suicidal behavior. Weaver puts over 23 years of professional and personal experience into these dynamic presentations, and provides a real-life, "no-nonsense" approach to issues of mental health, mental illness, symptoms of stress and depression, stigmas, communication skills, recovery, suicide awareness and prevention.

In addition, he will talk about the vulnerability of minority populations in regards to mental health and target his keynote to a student, faculty, and staff audience.

Eric will talk for an hour and be available for private conversations afterwards.
Co-sponsored by the Association of Staff and Faculty of African Descent and the Counseling Center. This is a worthwhile presentation, join the conversation.
