Tell Students: Registration Tip - A Late Drop Is Not a Drop; It Is a Withdrawal with Financial Penalities

Students can drop a course in Banner only through the first week of class, specifically, through the end of registration, which ends Monday, September 3, at 11:59 p.m. in Banner.

If a student drops a class after September 3, it is not a drop but a withdrawal from course. When a student drops a class, he or she has no financial liability, but after the first week of class, withdrawals carry the possibility of financial penalty. Please refer to the Schedule of Refund Eligibility from the Student Accounts Office page.

Drops can be completed easily online in Banner. Withdrawal from course is also done online in Banner.

Drops do not show on a student's official academic record. Withdrawals are recorded as a "W" next to the class, although they have no effect on a student's average.

It is always recommended that students complete all registrations, including drops and adds, before the first day of classes, August 27. Students who need to make changes during the first week of class should complete their drops as soon as possible as a courtesy to the faculty, who are working hard for them, and fellow students, who may be waitlisted for those courses.

Non-attendance in a class does not constitute an official withdrawal. Monday, September 3, at 11:59 p.m. is the deadline to complete all drop activity in Banner for fall 2018.
