'Beyond and Back: Bridging the World Outside Your Classroom to the World Within' - April 24

Please join us for “Beyond and Back: Bridging the World Outside Your Classroom to the World Within,” an opportunity for the Buffalo State community to learn about the School of Education’s commitment to engaging teacher candidates in global experiences beyond the campus, on Tuesday, April 24, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. in Butler Library 210.

Meet the students, faculty, and staff members who make it happen. Beyond and Back will feature the following speakers and presentations:

  • Sarah Ludwig-Ross, founder and director of the 3 Mariposas Montessori School, a partner school for the IPDS-Dominican Republic program. Ms. Ludwig-Ross’s keynote address will discuss international engagement and what students can do after returning from programs abroad.
  • Laura Hill Rao, director of the Civic and Community Engagement Office, who will share ways to get involved in local service-learning and community engagement activities.
  • Video release of the Global Literacy Channel, founded and directed by Patricia George, lecturer in the Elementary Education and Reading Department and co-director of the Global Literacy Initiative. Recently launched, the GLC videos feature teacher candidates from the Global Book Hour sharing strategies that family members can use to help their children become better readers and writers.
  • Showcase of the International Professional Development Schools (IPDS) Consortium. Past participants and program leaders will share details and reflections about the IPDS through a “walk about” poster session.

This free event is sponsored by the School of Education, the Professional Development Schools Consortium, and the Global Literacy Initiative with financial support provided through an award from the SUNY Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and grants from the Buffalo State Equity and Campus Diversity Office and the Institute for Community Health Promotion's Collaborative Research Initiative. Refreshments will be served. Please encourage students to attend.
