FITT Academy Presentations: 'Incorporating Videos in Child Development' and 'Remedial Math Tutorials for Social Science' - April 5

Please join us for the next two presentations of the FITT Spring Symposium on Thursday, April 5, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Technology Building 160.

Pamela Schuetze, professor of psychology, will discuss her project "Incorporating Videos and Related Digital Assignments in a Child Development Course." In order to fully appreciate child development, it is essential for students to be exposed to children of a variety of ages, which is best achieved by observing children; however, because of numerous logistical challenges, it is difficult to conduct live, in-person observations of children. This project created two videos relevant to a child development class: one an observational video of a child demonstrating problem-solving behaviors, and a second of a brief lecture introducing the concept of a "critical period."

Kyeonghi Baek, associate professor of political science, will discuss her project "Starting Off on the Right Foot: Remedial Math Skill Tutorials for Social Scientists." There is a great importance for political science students to learn the philosophy of science, research methods, and statistical techniques, which can be overwhelming. This project created remedial and supplemental support materials that can be reviewed at a student's own pace. Interactive web experiences (simulations, videos, practices quizzes) also help students succeed in Buffalo State's political science statistics course.

The FITT Spring Symposium, a signature event of the Fostering Innovation in Teaching with Technology (FITT) Academy, is a series of final presentations given by the academy's group of faculty participants throughout the month of April.

All presentations are open to faculty, staff, students, and guests.
