We are saddened by recent events of school violence in Florida and elsewhere. It is quite normal to feel sadness, fear, and other distress in the wake of these traumatic events. We hope you and our students are practicing self-care and paying attention to your emotional health and to those around you who may need extra support. At times like these, research tells us that it is helpful to avoid overexposure to media, to maintain contact with family and friends, to focus on your strengths, and to talk to others as needed.
This is a reminder that the Counseling Center, located on the second floor of the Weigel Wellness Center, offers free and confidential counseling services to all registered students. Our hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Professional counselors are available to offer support to any student who is experiencing distress, grief, or any psychological concern. There are a number of tips that can help you increase your resilience as well. Learn more on the American Psychological Association's website.
Visit our Counseling Center website and the trauma section of the APA website to see additional tips. Additional information on ways that faculty and staff members can refer students to us is also available.
And as always, please call us at 878-4436 with any questions or concerns. Thank you.
