Information Security Awareness: Alert from SUNY - Please Read

We have received notification from SUNY of an increase in phishing e-mail sent to individuals at educational institutions for the purpose of altering direct deposit accounts. Please do not give private information via e-mail, no matter who is asking. Never enter private information on a form from an e-mail link, no matter who is asking. This includes social security numbers and bank account numbers. Instead, phone the office that you believe sent the e-mail and ask if it’s legitimate. If you don’t recognize it, delete it.

Each year, faculty and staff in higher ed are successfully phished for private, payroll-related, personal information. It happens year-round but spikes at holidays and during income tax season. Protect yourself at all times.

Thank you to those who contact the RITE Support Desk about suspicious e-mail or forward suspicious e-mail to phishreports@buffalostate.edu.
