The U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-Cert) recently issued an alert regarding employment scams that target college students. This scam is complex and cons students out of money. Scammers post job vacancies online. When students apply, they are told they are hired but that they’ll need some software to do the job. They tell the students that they will receive checks in the mail from the HR department and to deposit those checks in their bank account and send money from their bank account to the software vendor. The checks are counterfeit.
