Dolores Battle, professor emerita and part-time lecturer, Speech-Language Pathology, received Honors of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics for her leadership in international issues related to speech-language pathology, education, and global disability. The award was given at the 34th triennial congress of the association in Torino, Italy, on August 31. The honor is the highest award given by the association, which has more than 200,000 affiliated members in 57 countries around the world.

At the congress, Battle gave an address titled "The Needs of Persons with Communication and Other Disabilities in Natural Disasters, Political Conflict, and War."

Battle also gave the keynote address "The World Is Not Flat: Global Issues in Communication Disability and Health" at the 5th East African Speech Therapy Association Conference on Communication Disability in Mombasa, Kenya, on September 2. The conference was attended by speech pathologists, occupational therapists, special educators, and administrators from seven countries in Africa and nine countries in Europe and Asia.
