Heather Gring, Archivist; and Tullis Johnson, Curator and Manager of Archives, Burchfield Penney Art Center

The Burchfield Penney Art Center Archives has received the 2016 Annual Archives Award for Program Excellence in a Historical Record Repository from the New York State Archives and Archives Partnership Trust. The award is presented annually to an organization in the state that exemplifies excellence in an archival program. The award was presented to curator and manager of archives Tullis Johnson and archivist Heather Gring at a ceremony at the Cultural Education Center in Albany in October.

This award recognizes the Burchfield Penney Archives for its outstanding work to collect, preserve, and provide access to materials that document the creative community in Western New York, including maintaining the records of more than 2,700 regional artists and preserving and making accessible the records of regional arts organizations. Among this material are records relating to the artist and namesake of the center, Charles Burchfield, and organizations like the Buffalo Society of Artists, Artpark, and the Art Institute of Buffalo.

The annual Archives Awards program takes place in October, during American Archives Month, and recognizes outstanding efforts in archives and records management work in New York State by a broad range of individuals and organizations.
