Message to Federal Work-Study Supervisors

The Financial Aid Office (FAO) urges all federal work-study (FWS) supervisors to strictly monitor student earnings for the spring 2014 semester. During the fall 2013 semester, the majority of FWS students did not earn their maximum FWS award. As a result, our FWS allocation was significantly underutilized. Please be advised that the Department of Education could penalize Buffalo State by reducing our FWS allocation in a future aid year.

You must immediately terminate a student and notify the FAO if he or she is not showing up for work or is not an institutional fit. If possible, the FAO will attempt to provide you with a replacement FWS student. It is also your responsibility to make sure that FWS time sheets are submitted to the Payroll Office on time. This is a critical step in our success of tracking overall campus FWS earnings and putting corrective actions in place in a timely manner.

Many thanks for joining us in the collaborative effort to enhance the overall administration of the FWS program.  Please contact Lea Nuwer, senior financial aid adviser, ext. 4902, with questions or concerns.
