I-Q-I Project: Inspiration - Quotation - Interpretation

Students in Buffalo State’s fiber design program created original, contemporary headwear for the 2008I-Q-I Project, an artistic, historical collaboration between Buffalo State College, the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, and the Peter Michal Bohun Gallery in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia.

The project enhanced international relationships by connecting educational institutions through Eastern European art. Buffalo State fiber design students gained inspiration from historic styles, designs, and fabrics on a representative sampling of headwear, fabrics, and millinery equipment from the Historical Society’s collection. Testing their studio skills, they transformed sketches and concepts into functional works of art.

They presented their final project hats and accessories in Slovakia in May 2008, along with students from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, at a joint exhibition hosted by the Peter Michal Bohun Gallery.

The I-Q-I Project is on display at the Historical Society through May 17. Images are available in the View photo gallery.
