John Thompson’s students in the educational technology program—Justin Baryza; Esther Campbell;Sean Connors, staff assistant, Continuing Professional Studies; Kathleen McDonald; and Edward Tromble—provided a $5,000 “technology makeover” for a classroom in St. Mary’s School for the Deaf in Buffalo. The makeover of Kirsten Helm’s secondary social studies classroom included an interactive whiteboard and pad, a clicker system, a document projector, an LCD projector, and a desktop computer. The project was a collaboration between Buffalo State College, St. Mary’s, eInstruction, Computers for Children, and Ingram Micro. Training on the new technology for Helm and her students was provided by eInstruction’s Bill Naab. Subsequently, St. Mary’s secured a grant from the Variety Club through HSBC Bank to create several additional technology-equipped classrooms using Helm’s classroom as a model.
