No Woman No Cry: A Tribute for Colored Girls for CSO's 'One Love' Week - DISCover the Legend

In honor of Black History Month, the Caribbean Student Organization (CSO) will pay homage to the life and legacy of Robert Nesta Marley by commemorating the first week of February as "One Love Week." In honor of the 30th anniversary of the renowned Legend album, each day of the week will feature a track-inspired program where the audience can discover the influence Marley made on the world. Our goal is to expose the man Marley was and teach how his music influenced love, peace, and unity for the world through a simple message of "One Love."

One Love Week: DISCover the Legend includes programs and events from Saturday, February 1, to Friday, February 7, that are free and open to the public. The CSO will kick off the first "One Love Week" with our signature C.L.A.P event titled "No Woman, No Cry" on February 1 at 5:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall.

In 2006, the CSO created the C.L.A.P (Caribbean, Latino, African American, and Pan-African) Alliance to unite minority student organizations on the Buffalo State campus in order to celebrate and collaborate on a platform of diversity, social justice, and service learning. Joining hands in an effort to bring attention to silent issues that span the different communities the organizations represent, CSO's C.L.A.P program has addressed global issues such as the HIV/AIDS epidemic, education, violence, and natural disasters.

In 2014, the CSO plans to expand the vision of C.L.A.P by strategically making the C.L.A.P program the kickoff of Black History Month. The C.L.A.P Alliance will focus the 2013–2014 platform on women’s issues by exploring concerns that women face from various cultural perspectives. The event will reference Ntozake Shange's "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf" and Nina Simone's "Four Women." The event will feature performances and presentations from the African American Student Organization (AASO), Adelante Estudiantes Latinos (AEL), Black Active Minds (BAM), CSO, and the Pan-African Student Organization (PASO); the honoring of four women; and a keynote address from Morgan Williams-Bryant. This event is sponsored by the Equity and Campus Diversity Office and the Grant Allocation Committee.
